Good news and bad news: Central Florida is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. In addition to the two million residents living in the tri-county area now, more than 1,500 people are moving here every month; not to mention the 950,000 visitors to Central Florida each week. It’s no wonder our roads are becoming more congested by the day! In this issue of Full Circle, we take a look at what’s being said and done to address the region’s growing gridlock.

“Central Florida is at a critical juncture,” according to the Central Florida Partnership. “Our unprecedented regional growth is challenging our ability to maintain basic infrastructure while building for the future.” The organization has formed a Transportation Corridor Task Force charged with the ambitious goal of achieving world-class resident and visitor transportation. Central to its mission is focusing on multi-modal solutions such as the Central Florida Commuter Rail line: a 61-mile system through Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.

Featured Project: Orlando Events Center and Parking Complex
In December, city leaders and the Orlando Magic unveiled plans for a new $480 million Orlando Events Center (OEC) scheduled to open in September 2010. C.T. Hsu + Associates is the associate architect in charge of the building exterior design, working with design architect HOK Sport, and providing design/build services for a $34 million parking structure to serve the needs of the OEC in conjunction with PCL Construction.

Director of Interior Design

Director of Interior Design Linda Karatzas is the newest member of CTH+A’s “green” family. LEED accredited and certified as a green building agent by the Florida Green Building Coalition, Linda joined the firm in September.
