In the last issue of Full Circle, we explored how green design and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) are advancing sustainable design solutions. In this issue, we continue that discussion by looking at the progress that is occurring in our own back yard.

The “green” movement is gaining momentum throughout the nation’s architecture and design communities. Evidence the increasing percentage of projects seeking the coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification; a green-rating program administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Locally, C.T. Hsu + Associates is pursuing LEED certification for more than $50 million in planned construction including the new Valencia Community College West Campus Building 11, Orange County Fire Station 84, and a proposed 11-story office building in downtown Orlando.

CTH+A is leading the rehabilitation and expansion of Airsides 1 and 3 at Orlando International Airport to conform to the newer Airside 4. Phase I of the project was completed last year. Work on Phase II is underway and slated for completion by December 2009.

- CTH+A was selected to plan and design Valencia Community College’s $22 million West Campus Building 11.
- CTH+A has begun construction on the replacement campus for Lakemont Elementary School.
- CTH+A sponsored the first ever Asian art exhibition at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park, Fla.
- Members of CTH+A participated in the third annual Orlando Dragon Boat Festival organized by the Chinese American Association of Central Florida.
