WHAT A YEAR! For more than 22 years, C.T. Hsu + Associates has dedicated itself to enhancing the quality of life in Central Florida through exceptionally built environments and volunteer involvement in civic, cultural and community organizations. The collective fruits of our labor culminated this year in numerous awards and recognitions that have left us astonished and humbled. As the year draws to a close, we’d like to celebrate some of our many milestones from 2006 with you:
The firm and its members received several awards for community service this year, the most significant of which is “Firm of the Year” from AIA Florida, recognizing outstanding achievement by an architectural firm spanning ten or more years in the areas of design, community service, education and service to the profession and the AIA. Other awards include:
The firm also earned design awards from AIA Orlando Chapter for Valencia Community College’s Criminal Justice Institute and from Orange County Government for the Orange County Convention Center West Entrance.
Our staff continued to grow and mature in 2006. Joining the firm this year were Senior Project Manager William Walker, Project Manager Richard Mullis, Senior Construction Administrator Robert Vella and Karen Casteel, wearing two hats as office manager and assistant to the president. Senior Project Manager Hector Torres led the firm’s implementation of integrated practice and BIM project planning by continuously identifying new technologies to improve the efficiency of our entire communication system, design and production capabilities. In the community, we continued our Partner in Education relationship with Rock Lake Elementary School by underwriting the “Make It Take It” program that provided 4th and 5th grade students with home computers and the knowledge to use them effectively to support their educational endeavors. Also, we are working with the school’s principal to improve the school’s look with a new landscaping design. In 2006, our firm provided pro bono services to numerous community organizations:
As we reflect with gratitude on the year that was, we also are looking ahead to the many opportunities that lie before us in 2007. For our firm, we will continue to develop our BIM / Integrated Practice expertise with technologies and turnkey services to help our clients and the design community best communicate needs and deliver solutions. We also plan to expand into the healthcare design sector, bringing our architectural expertise to bear on an industry that significantly impacts the health and wellbeing of every citizen and business in Central Florida. For the region’s architectural community, it is said, a rising tide lifts all boats. We believe Central Florida is rich with many architectural firms that are doing great work and giving back to the community. We would love to see the AIA Florida “Firm of the Year” award return to Orlando in the coming years, and we extend our help to share what we learned from the application process with any firm interested seeking this affirming honor. In addition, we plan to lead what we believe is a long-overdue effort: the creation of a world-class design center for the Central Florida design and business community. American poet Walt Whitman once said, “The strongest and sweetest song remains to be sung.” At C.T. Hsu + Associates, we believe our greatest work remains to be done. We can’t wait to get started!
