Mount Dora High School
The 900+ students of Mount Dora High School in Lake County started the school year in new surroundings designed by C.T. Hsu + Associates. The firm’s design merged two campuses across North Highland Street, linking them by the first-of-its-kind high school pedestrian bridge in Central Florida.
The former Roseborough Elementary School on the west side of the street was largely demolished to construct the new high school’s academic buildings; two-story brick structures that are connected by upper level canopied walkways overlooking landscaped and hardscaped courtyards. This plan allowed the high school to continue functioning on its existing east side campus during construction of the new buildings.
Staff and students were relocated to the new academic buildings once construction was complete, and the old west side campus was demolished to make room for construction of a new performing arts center, wellness facility, gym and parking. Community use of the performing arts center and athletic facilities was central to the overall layout of the high school.
