• The American Institute of Architects, Florida Chapter presented C.T. Hsu with its 2005 Hillard T. Smith Silver Medal Award on July 30 at the organization's annual convention. The annual award named in honor of AIA Florida Past President Hillard T. Smith recognizes an architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community. Hsu was nominated by AIA Florida member John P. Ehrig, FAIA, director of planning and design for Orange County Public Schools. "The nominee's successful track record of helping to make Florida a better place to live, work, and play is exemplary. The goodwill and prestige his accomplishments have generated for the architectural profession is worthy of recognition," Ehrig wrote in his nomination of Hsu. In addition, Hsu recently has completed the Leadership Florida program.

• James Hughes, AIA, AICP, has been promoted to an associate with the firm. He currently serves as the senior project manager for architecture and planning for the $90 million rehabilitation and hurricane restoration of Airsides 1 and 3 at Orlando International Airport. Hughes has more than 30 years' experience in the planning and design of various project types including military, transportation, health care, industrial, commercial and residential facilities. Before joining CTH+A, he served as a project manager and senior planner with the military and led various teams in programming, design review and construction coordination for projects with budgets in excess of $300 million. He holds a master's degree in architecture from the University of Texas and a bachelor's degree in architecture from North Dakota State University.

• CTH+A offers monthly lunch and learn programs for all staff members. Recent topics included precast concrete structures and the master planning process.

• The firm enjoyed a company and family picnic at Kelly Park at Rock Springs on July 17. The event was marked with a wonderful array of barbecue and fixings, friendly volleyball rivalry, and other fun-filled outdoor activities for staff members, select clients and their families.
