Helen Loiselle, Assistant Vice President, Facilities, Valencia College

Valencia College University Center

Our Orlando architecture firm designed a new joint-use facility for Valencia College and the University of Central Florida. Located at Valencia’s west campus, the facility provides 1,704 total student stations within general classroom spaces, nursing labs, and testing and computer labs. It also allocates office, administrative, and multi-purpose orientation spaces. The three-story steel frame structure complements the existing campus context with new architectural elements that utilize precast concrete panels, composite metal panels, and curtain wall window systems. The building mass divided a series of classroom modules linked by a linear spine that minimizes solar heat gain on the east and west elevations and maximizes daylighting along the north and south elevations. The building’s geometry creates exterior courtyards and connects existing pathways in the surrounding campus infrastructure. Project deliverables were developed with building information modeling, and a GOLD LEED rating was awarded to recognize the many sustainable features.
