ORLANDO, Fla. (May 20, 2009) – C.T. Hsu + Associates announced today that construction has begun on a new state-of-the-art campus for Edgewater High School, replacing the aging facility that has served an important role in the College Park neighborhood since 1952.  Construction manager for the project is W.G. Mills, Inc./Mims Construction Company.  The new campus is scheduled for completion in August 2011.

The new 48-acre campus will feature:

  1. Advanced technology to serve the school’s Engineering, Science & Technology magnet program
  2. New instructional buildings for grades 10-12
  3. A 750-seat performing arts theater
  4. A 1,600-seat gymnasium designated as an Enhanced Hurricane Protection area facility

The firm’s new urban school design adopts a courtyard style that collapses the open space and turns it vertically to form an internalized academic spine.  At the center of the spine is a three-story daylit atrium with three-story classroom wings organized along the axis and anchored by a gymnasium at one end and an administrative suite at the other.  In addition, the school fronts Edgewater Drive with a new performing arts center and landscaped entry plaza.
